What have you StumbleUpon ‘d?

May 31st, 2008

Not that StumbleUpon is new or anything, but I’ve recently been dabbling in visiting this website. It is definitely one of the cooler things on the web today.

What it is:
Well, it’s a social community built from what sites you like. Let me get more in depth. You make an account, and then install the toolbar (below). Then tell it what your interests are. When you hit the stumbleupon button in the toolbar it takes you to a site that it thinks you would like. There are also ways for telling if you like the site or not (the thumbs up and down buttons). It notices all the stuff you like and generates more and more pages that are relevant to what you like. So the more stuff you vote for, the more targeted the stumbles are to your liking.

There is also the social aspect, which allows you to add friends, view what they have liked, their favorites. And you can even blog on it.Overall, this is definitely an awesome concept and you should check it out.

My Top 5 Reasons why Web Design is so expensive

May 29th, 2008

So recently I have inquired into getting a custom design for my blog. After
many quotes, the starting price for most web designers is around $2000.

While i could spend the money and get stand-out unique website, i would rather
not drop $2000 on this blog. So i have made the layout myself, and i am getting
it coded. Now coding can range from $50-$400. Which is chump change compared to
$2000 for a whole design.

Why are these designs to expensive you might ask? Well heres my top 5 reasons why.

5. Platform/CMS,
depending on which CMS you use, you could be paying out your ass for a design.

4. Quality
This ties in with everything, the more you pay, the better quality coding and
web design you are going to get. And another thing: Having it XHTML and CSS Valid.

3. Paying for knowledge.
They had to learn the language, and have to know it inside and out to
be a top quality designer. You dont want some 15 year old kid who just picked up
a css/xhtml book designing your website.

2. Coding takes time. time=money
man hours for creating a website for you.

And my number 1 reason is!

1. There are 162 million websites on the internet
and they are making a unique one just for you!
