Mac Down!

May 22nd, 2008

So in my previous post about my new mac-ish, i install OS X on my AMD processor. Well, it was fun while it lasted but when i booted it up yesterday i got a HFS error. Being my lazy self, I’m not going to troubleshoot this through(even though i work in IT), i will be installing Vista x64 and throwing in my 8GB of ram tonight. Probably run a media server off of it or something similar, hook up my TV tuner, and have a ball. Will post some pictures of my monster (AMD 6000+ 3.2ghz(OC’d) 8BG ram nvidia 8500) soon.

Sorry Stephen Fung! I tried lol.

My new Mac-ish

May 18th, 2008

After reading this article from stephenfung.net, i was inspired to put OS X on my desktop once again. I have done this in the past and it didn’t work out too well, i had some freezing issues, which i believe was because i had 8GB of ram in it and the version i have is only 32bit. Anyways, my ‘hackintosh’ installed flawlessly, and recognized my wireless card as an airport card, so it was pretty painless compared to my previous attempts.  I have a Powerbook G4 for the road, and now i have a ‘Mac Pro’, or so OS X tells me. But this is my first step into leopard, and i love it. It’s aesthetically pleasing UI and more features make me not want to go back over to my laptop(which is running OS X 10.4).

Will the iPhone go viral in Canada?

May 9th, 2008

After rogers announcing its iPhone invasion to Canada, I find myself wondering… is it all its hyped up to be?

Seems like every tech savvy person in the US has picked one up and has loved it. Personally, a slick phone with wifi, full web browser, and an abundance of 3rd party apps should be on everyones wish list. Well, its on mine at least.

Rogers said it would be coming mid summer to Canada, which im definitely pumped about. My guess for pricing would be around $500.

On the other hand there are many iPhones being sold here privately and are BNIB(Brand new in box). Which is definitely very tempting, but who can you trust with $500 of your money to unlock a phone and have it work correctly for its full lifetime… yeah not many people.

I will definitely think hard about getting an iPhone, or maybe wait till it gets flash support on safari.

Why are macs so expensive?

May 6th, 2008

Well, quality comes with a price. My 12″ Powerbook came to about $2500 when i bought it - and i don’t ever regret it. The thing with macs is: you know its stable and you know it works. And it will, for a long time. They built their OS around integrating it with their specific hardware, which in my opinion is the best option. This ensures quality, and lifetime of the computer.

Not to say other companies don’t do this. Alienware is, in my opinion, the Microsoft’s market rival to the Mac. Delivering top of the line computers, built for graphics rendering and gaming.

But all in all, Macs are definitely a good investment, I’ve had mine for 4 years and its never let me down. They even sent me a free battery when i called, replaced some broken keys, And provided the most stable, user friendly operating system to date.
